Someone who works in sales and estimating will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing drawings, plans, and specifications to determine project requirements and scope.

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates based on material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.

  • Create and submit bids for projects, ensuring all aspects of the job are covered and competitive pricing is offered.

  • Gather quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, and factor in those costs into the estimate.

  • Stay updated on market conditions, material costs, and labor rates to adjust estimates accordingly.

  • Use past project data to compare costs, identify trends, and improve the accuracy of future estimates.

  • Meet with clients to discuss project requirements, deliverables, and timelines.

  • Ensure all required permits, licenses, and regulatory considerations are factored into the cost estimation.

  • Factor in safety regulations, insurance, and compliance costs into estimates.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with potential and existing clients to foster long-term business relationships.

  • Schedule and attend meetings with clients to discuss their needs and the products/services offered.

  • Work with clients to develop customized proposals, negotiate terms, and close contracts.

  • Present final estimates and proposals to clients, addressing any questions or concerns.

  • Monitor ongoing projects to ensure that sales and estimating expectations are met in terms of timeline, budget, and scope.
